The Race at Glacier

The Glacier Nordic Ski Club is hosting the 2010 Western States Youth Ski Festival at the Glacier Outdoor Center in West Glacier, Montana on February 27th and 28th, 2010.

Location The Glacier Outdoor Center is less than a mile from the west entrance to Glacier National Park and 24 miles from Whitefish, Montana.  There is no groomed skiing in Glacier however the famous Going to the Sun Road is plowed for 10 miles at which point there is a (usually) skied in trail on the unplowed road in the spectacular McDonald Valley. Numerous nordic ski opportunities are available in and around Whitefish as well as downhill at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

Events

An interval start classic and skate races, (a downhill race) and obstacle/terrain park event.  There will be four events offered for J6, J5, J4, J3 and Novice J2. 1, 2 and 3 K classic and skate races as well as a downhill and obstacle race.

Super hero coach obstacle course race to follow immediately after the downhill is finished. Dress up your coaches as a super hero and watch them compete for valuable prizes!

Entry Fees

$50 per athlete includes entry to all four events, the Saturday Awards Banquet, Sunday chili and soup lunch, event embroidered hat and trail fees.

Banquet and Chili/Soup Fees

Saturday awards banquet for coaches, parents and siblings is $12. Location is at the Whitefish Middle School lunchroom at 2nd and Spokane Avenue in downtown. From West Glacier or hotels head north on 93, at the traffic light in town (school is on the NE corner), make a right on 2nd Street, next left on Kalispell Ave. Park on the street or in the fenced parking lot. Follow the signs and balloons to the entrances leading to the lunchroom. After the awards, open gym is available for an additional hour. There is hint of a dodge ball tournament. Parents may stay and play or take a walk through downtown Whitefish one block away.  Maps will be available at the race.

Sunday Lunch.  Sunday soup and chili lunch for coaches, parents and siblings is $5 paid at the race.  Included for racers.

Sunday awards for classic, overall and team trophies will be done at this time.

  Masters Race Offered Saturday, February 27 3 P.M.

There will be a 7K masters race offered as well at the end of the junior events on Saturday. Registration for the race is day of the event. Cost $15. Racers will receive an embroidered hat.
